DRYTEK 8400DrytekT 8400 is a premium quality, fast-drying underlayment patch designed for use over most substrates, including concrete, wood, pvc, vct, ceramic and quarry tile. Excellent for deep fills and trenching.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS

  • Apply at a thickness of 1/8” – 1 1⁄2”
  • Walkable in 30-40 minutes
  • Coverage: approximately 60 sq. ft. per 35 lb bag at 1/8” thickness
  • Fast-drying
  • Water damage stable
  • Suitable for interior use
  • Can be applied directly over wet concrete (RH 95% or less per ASTM F2170) without risk for deterioration of adhesives and subsequent bond loss of glued-down goods
  • Inorganic; will not contribute to or harbor growth of mold or mildew
  • Will not contribute to damaging emissions or irritating fumes upon setting or curing

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTRATES / PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS

PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATE

Substrate shall be free from dust, oil or any contaminants which may contribute to decreased bond. Weak surfaces must be mechanically cleaned to sound and solid substrates by shot-blasting, scarifying or similar. Remove any loose particles such as adhesive residues and then vacuum. Surface bond strength of substrate should be minimum 72 PSI (0.5 MPa). Substrate temperature should be a minimum 43°F (+6°C) during application and air temperature maintained between 50-77°F (10-25°C). Adequate ventilation should be provided to ensure uniform drying. Moisture level of substrate should be RH 95% or less prior to application of DRYTEK 8400 for all interior applications. Felt-backed floor coverings should be removed prior to application of DRYTEK.

MIXING

DRYTEK 8400 should be mixed with 4.5 -5 quarts of water per 35 lb bag. Do not over-water. Add product to water and mix for 2-3 minutes with a heavy duty drill (650 rpm) to obtain a lump-free mix

APPLICATION

Apply blended material to substrate at a thickness of 1/8”- 1 1⁄2” for all surfaces. After initial set of material (approx. 10-15 min.) remove all overlap marks, seams and inconsistencies by scraping with steel trowel. Material can be walked on after 30-40 minutes.

FLOORING INSTALLATION

Finished floor goods can be applied to surface after 40 minutes of application, depending on thickness, drying conditions and type of finished floor. Due to the relatively low pH level of DRYTEK floor leveling products, finished floor goods can be applied rapidly without risk of adhesive bond failure. As a general rule, permeable materials such as carpeting may be adhesively or mechanically applied to DRYTEK underlayments when RH level of substrate (i.e. concrete, slab, etc) is 95% or below. RH levels should be determined according to ASTM standard F2170. Always test performance suitability and compatibility of finished floor systems prior to their application. Sample surfaces should be installed as a field test so as to be representative of entire surface and tested for intended use. Always refer to finished floor manufacturers recommendations regarding installation instructions, restrictions and compatibility.

LIMITATIONS

Not for applications exposed to continuous contact with water.

PACKAGING

DRYTEK 8400 is available in 35 lb (15.9 KG) polyethylene lined paper bags.

WARNING: Dust may cause skin, eye, nose, throat, or respiratory irritation. Avoid dust inhalation and exposure to dust. If dusty, wear a NIOSH/MSHA-approved dust respirator. Use proper ventilation to reduce dust exposure. Portland cement is strongly alkaline and can be corrosive to eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Wear eye and skin protection. If eye contact occurs, immediately flush thoroughly with water for 15 minutes and get medical attention. Do not ingest. If ingested and any discomfort occurs, call physician.
